The resources below support special education coordinators and administrators in Alabama's Local Education Agencies in managing systems-level responsibilities: compliance and monitoring, data reporting, fiscal management, and dispute resolution. Materials are aligned with IDEA and the Alabama Administrative Code, Chapter 290-8-9, and are developed by Special Education Services (SES).
Resources are organized by topic. Each topic page follows the same format: a plain-language overview, the applicable legal citations, practical tools and timelines, and common errors identified through monitoring.

The ALSDE differentiated monitoring process and the Document of Assurance and Technical Assistance form (due to the ALSDE by September 15 each year). Includes State Performance Plan / Annual Performance Report (SPP/APR) indicators, data entry and reporting calendars, timelines self-audit tools for evaluation, IEP, reevaluation, and complaint deadlines, self-assessment materials to use before monitoring visits, corrective action planning guidance, and records management.

Includes personnel certification requirements for special education staff and staffing and caseload considerations under the Alabama Administrative Code.
